How this calculator works
Enter your birthday and this tool finds your Chinese zodiac sign using a 12-year cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The year boundary used is the Start of Spring (立春), the convention followed in Chinese astrology (BaZi) — not the more commonly cited Lunar New Year date, which can place a small number of birthdays in a different sign. Calculations run entirely in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Chinese zodiac sign determined?
Your Chinese zodiac sign is based on the lunar year you were born in, following a repeating 12-year cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. This calculator uses the Start of Spring (立春) as the year boundary, which is the convention used in Chinese astrology (BaZi), rather than the more commonly cited Lunar New Year date.
Why does this calculator use 立春 instead of Lunar New Year?
Folk tradition often uses Lunar New Year as the zodiac boundary, but Chinese astrology (BaZi) strictly uses the Start of Spring (立春), a solar term that falls on a fixed point in the sun's yearly cycle. For most birthdays the two methods agree, but for people born in the few weeks between 立春 and Lunar New Year, the sign can differ depending on which method is used.
What if I was born on the exact day of 立春?
立春 happens at a specific moment, not just a date — so being born on that calendar day means your exact zodiac sign depends on your birth hour. Add your birth hour for a precise result; without it, the calculator assumes midday.
Is my birth date stored or shared anywhere?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser. The "Save image" and "Share" buttons only ever generate a picture of your already-calculated result (zodiac sign and description) — your birth date, birth hour, and the style you picked are never included in the image, and are never sent to or stored on AuraTech's servers.
